Countries where Life is must Difficult in the World

The world is a beautiful and wonderful place to live in, is it not? It is full of nature, reserves, mineral resources, tourist attractions, and places around the globe that have stood the test of time for hundreds of years. But not everywhere is safe and peaceful. This is a sad but also a certain fact.

There are some countries where life is very hard and dangerous because of wars, terrorism, crime, and political instability.

In this article, we will look at the 10 most dangerous countries in the world.

This is not to say people in these countries are bad, no. In fact, most people are victims of the situation, but because of many reasons, these countries have become risky for both citizens and travelers.

Among the countries to feature in this list, some of them have found themselves in a state of turmoil, shock, and the horrors of war. Below are the top ten based on crime rate, terrorism, war, and how unsafe it is to live or visit there.

1. Afghanistan

Afghanistan is a pariah state, a country that was torn apart by wars for decades, first it was Russia, the USSR, and then the US invasion. It has faced decades of war and unrest. Since the Taliban took over again in 2021, the situation got worse. Women and girls cannot go to school, which is shocking in itself.

People are afraid to speak freely, and bombs still go off in different parts of the country. It is one of the most dangerous places on earth to find oneself. There are still clashes between the Taliban and other groups, and sometimes civilians get caught in between the deadly fireworks.

Infrastructure also is broken, hospitals do not have enough medicines, and in fact, there are not enough facilities and people are often hungry. There is no real freedom and foreigners are always advised not to go there. They will not dare to.

2. Syria

One of the oldest countries in the world, Syria, is at the number 2 slot. Since 2011, Syria has been in a deadly and agonizing civil war.

The conflict started when people protested against the government, but it later became worse with so many different groups fighting each other, setting the whole country into a state of total turmoil, all under the watching eyes of the then leader, Bashar Al Assad.

Some places are controlled by the government, others by rebels, and some even by terrorists. There are certain times when Syria can be best described as an anarchy state.

The war has fully destroyed big and historic cities like Aleppo and left millions of people without homes and shelter. Even now, bombs still fall and some children grow up knowing only war. What happened in Syria had already happened, but the future is still blurry.

3. Somalia

Somalia has been struggling with problems for many years. There is no strong or competent government, and many areas are ruled by militias or terror groups like Al-Shabaab. Pirates used to disturb ships near the coast, but even on land, people live in fear. There are kidnappings, bomb attacks, and extreme poverty.

Life there is not easy and even humanitarian workers get attacked sometimes. Crimes in Somalia are perpetrated almost as normal. It is clearly a no go area.

4. Yemen

The Arab country of Yemen at slot 4 is suffering from both civil war and hunger. Since 2015, two major groups have been fighting, the Houthi rebels and the government forces supported by Saudi Arabia. This is exactly the premise or plot that set Yemen into this infamous chaos it found itself deeply inside.

The war has caused one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. Millions of people are starving, hospitals with poor facilities have little to no supplies, and children are dying from malnutrition. Bombings happen all the time and landmines are still everywhere and very active in some regions. Life is very hard for people in Yemen. And until the two major groups ponder diplomacy or a simple parley, nothing is looking good at the moment.

5. South Sudan

South Sudan, a ticking bomb, became a country in 2011 and readily fell into a deadly civil war. Though there is now a peace agreement, the country is still not safe. Armed groups still fight each other. Other terror groups are very much active which is why the country is always chaotic with the above mentioned armed groups causing unrest here and there.

Villages are burnt down and women and children, clearly the most vulnerable ones, suffer the most. Spreading some salt to the already itchy wound, there is also ethnic violence and many people are displaced. Hunger is everywhere. The government is weak and incompetent. It is clear as the day they cannot protect all its citizens.

6. Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)

The DRC is one of Africa’s largest countries. It is also one of the most deeply corrupted countries even in Africa, the continent with the most corrupt nations. The DRC has many dangerous regions. Armed groups operate in the east, especially in places like North Kivu. They attack villages, steal, rape, and kill without an ounce of fear or mercy.

Even though the country is rich in minerals, most people are poor because of complete oppression and massive corruption activities. The government cannot control many parts, and corruption is very high. Disease outbreaks also add to the problem.

7. Iraq

The Middle East country of Iraq got the number 7 slot. Had it been that this article was written a decade ago, Iraq would have appeared much higher in the rankings. The country has gone through several wars, including the US invasion in 2003 under the George W. Bush administration. It was too gruesome and filled with war crimes that even the current US president, Donald Trump, condemned it publicly. And the rise of ISIS some years after contributed a lot to the menace. Though ISIS has been pushed back, attacks still happen in many places. There is still political unrest and people complain about bad governance.

Militias sometimes take the law into their own hands. Even though life in Baghdad is more stable now, other regions are still risky. To put it simply, everything is not looking good or at least as it used to be.

8. Central African Republic (CAR)

Number 8 is another African country, this time in the form of The Central African Republic which is often forgotten by the world. This is how it seems, but it is still one of the most unstable and corrupted countries out there.

Armed groups controlled large areas, and fighting between Muslims and Christians has caused many deaths. The government only controls the capital and nearby areas, which clearly shows its incompetence. In The Central African Republic, it is warlords and armed rebels that decide what happens. People live in fear every day.

9. Haiti

One of the poorest countries on earth, Haiti is not in Africa or the Middle East but in the Caribbean, and yet it is very dangerous right now. The president was assassinated in 2021, and since then, gangs have taken control of the capital, Port au Prince. It is a full anarchy scene. There is no law and order.

Kidnappings are common, and that is why people are fleeing from the cities to villages, and even there, the safety is not much or guaranteed. Even the police are afraid of the gangs. Life in Haiti is not safe for anyone currently.

10. Ukraine

Ukraine used to be a peaceful country, but everything changed in 2022 when Russia invaded, with President Vladimir Putin overseeing things from his hot seat at the Kremlin. Since then, there has been heavy fighting in the east and south.

Cities like Mariupol and Bakhmut were almost totally destroyed. Civilians died in their thousands. Homes, hospitals, and schools have been bombed. Even now, missiles land in cities. Though some parts are safer, Ukraine is still a war zone. The EU will often sit down to discuss a ceasefire among other agreements, but disputes between Russia and its allies against many other countries highly contributed to the ongoing unrest in Ukraine.

These countries are not just names in the news; they are places where real people are suffering every day. War, hunger, crime, and fear have made life very hard. It is easy to forget them, but we should always remember that peace is a gift.
