Urhobo College, Ogbe-Ijoh Govt school set for showdown in 2025 Delta Principals’ Cup final

All eyes will be on the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, today as Urhobo College, Effurun, and Ogbe-Ijoh Government School, Warri South-West, face off in the grand finale of the 2025 Delta State Principals’ Cup Football Competition — a fitting climax to weeks of thrilling school football across the state.

Now in its 8th edition, the grassroots tournament — sponsored by Zenith Bank Plc in partnership with the Delta State Government — has grown into one of Nigeria’s most prestigious platforms for discovering young football talent.

This year’s competition kicked off on September 18 at St. Patrick’s Secondary School, Asaba, featuring over 1,000 schools from all 25 Local Government Areas of Delta State. After an intense series of knockout matches, two deserving sides remain — each with their eyes firmly on the coveted trophy.

Urhobo College, Effurun, reached the final following a successful protest victory over Otokutu Grammar School, while Ogbe-Ijoh Government School battled their way through a nail-biting semifinal in Ozoro, edging Justice, Peace and Success Academy 5–4 on penalties after a 2–2 draw in regulation time.

Before the main event, Justice, Peace and Success Academy will take on Otokutu Grammar School in the Third Place match, serving as a lively prelude to the title decider.

An electrifying atmosphere is expected as Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori leads a host of dignitaries to witness the final. Also in attendance will be Chief Ken Nwamucha, Chairman of the Delta State Football Association, and top executives of Zenith Bank Plc, proud sponsors of the tournament.

Speaking ahead of kickoff, Tony Pemu, CEO of HideaPlus Limited, organisers of the competition, assured that all arrangements have been made for a smooth, secure, and memorable finale.
